It’s Not About What You Know

As this title states, it’s not about WHAT you know, but WHO you know on Judgment Day.

I was just going through a journal from last year and I was reminded of a neat analogy my friend Jennie said during Bible study. She told of how some people are #1 fans of artists and bands like John Mayer. They could be waiting in line to get backstage passes to one of his concerts, while talking about all the facts they know about him. But when they get to the guard with the list of people who will be admitted, they are not on it. They start protesting that they know him, his middle name, wife’s name, favorite color, etc. The guard, however, proceeds to say, “You may know about him, but he does not know you.”

This basically means that it he doesn’t matter if you know about God if He does not know you. This can only happen by having a personal relationship with Him. It’s just like any friendship – you must spend time with them, talking with them, sharing experiences in order to feel close to them.

Think of it another way – If you were to describe a rose to a blind person, they would be able to recall what they know about that rose, but unless they experience it for themselves through their senses (ex: smelling and feeling the rose), they will not fully have a grasp of what a rose truly is. This analogy may be a bit of a stretch, but I think you get the idea. :)

John 10:27 – “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.”

Matthew 10:32 – “Whoever acknowledges Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in Heaven.”

Let us not mistake a knowledge of God to be a relationship with Him. I pray that on the Day of Judgment we will be able to “shout for joy” when we hear our name’s being called by our Heavenly Father!

In Christ,
Shannon
