Passionate Love

Tonight I came upon an old favorite book of mine: “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan. Below I have included a few of Chan’s thoughts from the first chapter:

“To just read the Bible, attend church, and avoid ‘big’ sins – is this passionate, wholehearted love for God?” – Francois Fenelon, Seeking Heart

Our view of God is narrow and small when we think that Christianity is only about avoiding drinking, drugs, sex, and swearing. Today Christianity is seen as fighting your desires to please God. This was not at all what God wants or planned for. Rather than living comfortable lives, I believe God wants us to live lives filled with risk and adventure. I believe He wants us to love others so much that we will go to extremes to help them. I believe He wants us to be known for giving – of our time, money, and our abilities.

We have become lukewarm, half-hearted Christians because we have an inaccurate view of God. Rather than fitting God into our lives, He needs to become the center of our very existence.

I have two videos I’d like you all to check out by Francis Chan. He gives a great picture of who God truly is and what that means for how we are to live.

The Awe Factor of God (3mins)

I don’t know about you, but after watching this video I realize how small and trivial my trials really are!! This was a great reminder for me to get my focus off myself and put my focus on God, first and foremost so I can further His kingdom, and on to others as well.

Just Stop and Think (15mins – well worth watching though!!)

He’s quite the Pursuer!

With love and prayers,
Shannon

I love Francis Chan. Love love love. I was introduced to him in 2007, and have been following his sermons over YouTube since then. To this day, my favorite is still "Lukewarm and Loving It." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBhqrtMqrv8
